70 INDIA'S HYDROCARBON OUTLOOK 2024-2025
3 The Indian government's commitment to
streamlining business regulations in the
Exploration and Production (E&P) sector is
evident in the recent wave of policy reforms. This
focus on improving the Ease of Doing Business
has led to a significant rise in E&P activity. This
surge is expected to play a crucial role in achieving
the government's ambitious goal of reducing
Exploration dependence on imported hydrocarbons.
and Production Recognizing that increased domestic oil and gas
production is key to reducing import reliance,
the government has prioritized boosting E&P
Activities activities. This includes offering more exploration
acreage and discovered fields for development.
The substantial E&P efforts undertaken in 2014-
25 have set the stage for sustained growth in
the Indian E&P sector for years to come. This
chapter provides a comprehensive overview
of E&P activities during the 2024-25 fiscal year,
including details on hydrocarbon discoveries
and statistics on exploration, development, and
production across the country.
3.1 Seismic Activities
In FY 2024-25, majority of the data acquisition
was carried out under Nomination and RSC
regime (in OALP Blocks). The data acquisition
efforts during FY 2024-25 under various regimes
have been highlighted in Table 3.1. The data
indicates that 936.37 GLKM of 2D seismic data
was acquired. For 3D seismic, a total of 10795.3
SKM was collected, with 2573.69 SKM attributed
to nominated agencies (ONGC and OIL) and
a substantial 8221.61 SKM from the Contract
Regime (PSC+RSC), predominantly from
offshore operations. This highlights significant
