India's Sedimentary Basins: Subsurface Insights 29
• Hydrocarbon prospectivity and Basin The basin has been identified for drilling of one
maturity: stratigraphic well under the GoI-approved plan.
The basin is presently studied by University of

Onland sub-basin has a total hydrocarbon
in-place of 22 MMTOE and this is entirely
undiscovered risked in-place. The basin has
100% of total in-place, potential to be explored
and discovered.
Offshore sub-basin has a total hydrocarbon in-
place of 375 MMTOE. This includes discovered
in-place of 77 MMTOE and undiscovered risked
in-place of 298 MMTOE. The discovered in-place
is subject to commercial development.
The basin has 79.5% of total in-place, potential to
be explored and discovered.
• Basin datasets and studies:
As of 31.03.2025, NDR has archived primary
datasets of 37,609 LKM 2D seismic, 37,713
SKM 3D seismic and 52 conventional wells (45
exploratory). Multiple flavour of reprocessed
seismic datasets are also archived whenever the
same are provided by E&P Operators.
The basin has 6 gas hydrate wells that were
drilled under National Gas Hydrate Programme
(NGHP).
